Blue Suede Shoes: Excerpt 9

“Order whatever you want,” Ryan said, waiting for her to choose the salad, as did most of the girls he dated.
“Good, because I am starving!” Again, that’s what most of the girls said, he thought ruefully. So when the server reappeared, he allowed Clarissa to order for herself, not knowing which dressing she would choose.
“Well, I’ll have the house salad, with ranch,” Clarissa said, as Ryan rolled his eyes. “I’ll follow that up with the nine ounce sirloin, medium rare. The baked potato, loaded, with the seasonal veggies.” She smiled primly at Ryan’s shocked expression. “Oh, and don’t forget to bring the dessert tray by at the end.”
“Very good, miss.” If the server seemed surprised by her order, he kept his face neutral as he took Ryan’s order. “I’ll have the lady’s salad and your soup up immediately.”

He moved off, and Ryan looked at Clarissa. “You were expecting me to order a salad and the fat-free dressing?” It was her turn to surprise him, and she did, when she turned up the wattage on her grin. He was mesmerized by her blue eyes and the delicate, bare neck she exposed with her low neckline.
